Head of of Independent Election Commission in Herat Province was arrested by police yesterday, after beating up two journalists.
Mr. Shahpor Sabery and Khalil Nawrozi the reporters of Radio Azadi and Voice of America while trying to cover a meeting of IEC that had been held in one of the restaurants, had beaten up by the Security officials of IEC of Herat province. These reporters say that they were invited to the meeting by the IEC yesterday but, while entering to the meeting they had been not allowed.
According to the reporter's statements, the IEC official of Herat Province, after insulting these reporters, started beating them along with two police officer.
One of the Official of Information and Communication Deportment of IEC had confirmed that this incident had been occurred in Herat Province.
After the incident, Associated institutions of journalists in separated contacts to Herat police officials demanded them to pursue the case.
Abdul Qadir Shahen in charge of ANJU in Herat Province says that the Police has taken over the case.
He further includes; the representative's of journalists demanded to arrest the perpetrators of the case in a meeting with Head of Herat police.
According to Herat police reports, security official of IEC has been arrested .
Rahmatullah Safi, police chief of Herat, assured the Media representatives that sooner other perpetrators of this case will be arrested and the case will be forwarded to the judicial authorities.
From the beginning of the year so far it is the sixth case of violence against Journalists in Herat province where most of the violence had been from security forces and armed individuals.
